"NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME - SECURITY AND DEFENSE''

National Scientific Program – Security and Defence is funding by Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The main objective of the programme is to ensuring a secure and favorable environment for the development of the society and the state by conducting coordinated and targeted fundamental and applied scientific research in the field of security and defence and creating a sustainable partnership between the scientific and educational organizations included in the program for collaboration participation in national and European international research networks, programs and projects.

Specific objectives of the programme are:

1. Fundamental research

2. Accompanying Applied Research

3. Dissemination of research results

4. Knowledge transfer to The relevant management bodies in the state and local administration, partner scientific and educational organizations, Business partners.

5. Synchronization of the program with the other national and international scientific programs to increase the participation of Bulgarian scientific teams and organizations in the European Scientific Area, the EU framework program for scientific research and innovation “Horizon Europe”, “European Defence Fund” and the NATO science program “Science for Peace and Security’.

Program activities are divided into 4 components:

1. Component 1 – Security (including: WP 1.1. Management systems and WP 1.2. Technological assurance)

2. Component 2 – Cyber security and cyber defense (including: WP 2.1. Monitoring, prevention, detection and response and WP 2.2. Standards and innovation)

3. Component 3 – Defense and protection of the population during disasters and accidents (including: WP 3.1. Equipment and WP 3.2. Doctrines and strategies)

4. Component 4 – Dissemination of results and management (including: WP 4.1. Dissemination of results and WP 4.2. Program management)

The Center for National Security and Defense research at the Bulgarian National Academy of Sciences manage the implementation of the following tasks, distributed in the work packages:

WP 1.1: Management systems – Task 1.1.6. Risk and threat analysis, design and development of conceptual generating models and software to increase the effectiveness of management of forces and means of impact on critical infrastructure during natural disasters, accidents and crises

WP 1.2: Technological provision – Task 1.2.4. Development of an automated system for determining the functional and structural characteristics of aerodynamic conceptual models for the study of autonomous platforms at high speeds

WP 2.2: Standards and Innovation – Task 2.2.1. Modern techniques for information protection

WP 3.1. Equipment – Task 3.1.1. Research and application, in the field of security and defense, of renewable and chemical sources of electricity and the possibilities of using non-volatile sources based on lithium; Task 3.1.2. Development of a “flow-fuel” (flow-fuelcell) zinc-air battery based on cheap and ecological Bulgarian materials for the use of energy-independent sources to provide the critical infrastructure in the event of disasters, accidents and catastrophes; Task 3.1.7. Design and construction of a sensor system (optical-electronic/acoustic/thermovision) for detection, tracking and blocking (destruction) of drones; Task 3.1.8. Research, design and development of a recognition system through the analysis of biometric data using artificial intelligence
