Center for National Security and Defence Research – BAS actively participates in the Sixth edition of the “Science for Business” forum

On June 16, 2026, the Center for National Security and Defense Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences presented its activities within the framework of the prestigious Science for Business forum.

The event was held in the Vitosha Hall of the Inter Expo Center in Sofia and brought together leading researchers, entrepreneurs and representatives of institutions.

The forum was opened with key messages for the future of innovation in the country. The President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Iliana Yotova, emphasized the importance of cooperation between researchers and entrepreneurs with the words: “No country has become richer because it has cheap labor. Bulgaria has all the advantages and opportunities to create high technologies.”

For her part, the President of the BAS, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, drew attention to the need for active support and trust from the industry: “The path from the laboratory prototype to the market requires investments that are risky. In order for our discovery to become an innovation, funds must be invested. Business must take more risks and have more trust in Bulgarian scientists.”

Inspired by the goal of building a working bridge between scientific achievements and practice, the CNSDR-BAS team welcomed the guests at its special stand. The experts provided us with detailed information and were available for networking and discussing partnership opportunities in the following key areas:

National Scientific Programme “Security and Defense”: Presentation to the public and business of the key results and expertise achieved to date within the framework of the National Science Program “Security and Defense”

European Resilience from Space: Introduction to the European projects VALORADA, Med-IREN and Regions4Climate. These projects focus on the use of satellite observation data and innovative technologies for disaster risk management, protection of critical infrastructure and increasing the resilience of societies to climate change.

Technology Transfer and Innovation: Discussions on joint initiatives and provision of information on tools and services for commercialization at national and international levels. Special emphasis is placed on the FIERCE project, which is directly aimed at innovation for business and providing support in the process of the dual green and digital transition.

We thank all representatives of the business, institutions and the scientific community who visited our stand and showed interest in our developments and shared their ideas. We believe that the contacts created will lay a solid foundation for future joint successes and successful technology transfer.
